Refosco Terre Rosse

Quality dry red wine

Vineyard location and characteristics: The position of Terre Rosse near the village of Petrovija in the vicinity of the city of Umag is home the Istrian red soil where two genetically very close, yet different varieties of Teran and Refosco are grown. Both varieties have a high percentage of acids and antioxidants, thus allowing for fresh, invigorating and long-lasting wines. A low yield is yet another guarantee for the quality of aromas and the long aging possibilities of these wines.

Vinification and maturing: Alcohol fermentation begins at the temperature of 25 to 28°C for 10 to 15 days. The malolactic fermentation and the maturation period take place in small oak casks over the course of 36 months which help balance the initially energetic acids and tannins. What follows next is the blending and the ageing of wine in a big wooden barrel over the span of several months, finishing with an additional 6 months spent in a bottle where the wine is further matured and balanced.

Color: Dark ruby red

Bouquet: Ripe Maraska cherry, caramelized plums, vanilla cinnamon, dark chocolate and herbal notes of green tea and mint

Taste: Savory and fruity, to be brief. Fresh, fruity, savory and very smooth. Its freshness leaves both a clean taste in the mouth, as well as a completely unambiguous taste of red fruit and mild delicate spices. Tannins are gentle and well-rounded.

Gastronomic recommendation: Cured meat products, salami, prosciutto ham, grilled homemade game sausage, lamb under the “peka”, game “žgvacet” with gnocchi or polenta
